This page is used to add or edit tournament information for a stroke scored event.  For a Match-Play event look here.  For a Points event look here

Tournament Name - The name you want to use for this tournament.

Tournament/Round Date - The date of the tournament or round.  For a multi-round event, you should edit the date for each round to match the date of play.

Golf Course/Tee - Select one of the listed course/tees from the drop-down list.  These correlate with the courses and tees you have created. If the course/tee you want isn't listed, you'll need to add it under <My Courses>. This is considered the 'Default' course/tee for the event.

Scoring Entry Method - Select the scoring method from the drop-down list.

Course Holes to be Played - This function can be used to control which holes (out of the associated default course/tee) are available for scoring.  It is most useful for 9 hole events where the players might only be playing either the front-9 or back-9 of an 18 hole course.  When selected, only those holes will be made available for scoring.  For example if playing the back-9 and using a shotgun with a start hole of 18, Scrolf will start scoring at 18 and continue scoring on holes 10 through 17.

Individual or Team Scoring - Select how scores will be entered.  If scores are entered for each player, select Individual.  If only a team score is entered (for example in Scramble Events), then select Team.

Handicapping - Enables application of handicaps for each team/player.  If selected an additional column will appear in the grid where you will enter the handicap for each team/player.  Selecting the "Net and Gross Leaderboards" will allow display of both gross and net leaderboards.

Handicap Entry Type - Select the type of WHS (World Handicap System) handicap you will be entering.

Course Handicap - This is the most common handicap entry and the default. Handicaps for pros (better than scratch) should be entered as negative values. Starting in 2020 the World Handicap Sytem (WHS) allows for the application of a handicap allowance.  If using an allowance other than 100%, you should enter the unrounded course handicap with up to 3 decimal           positions.  Rounding with WHS only occurs after applying a handicap allowance.

Handicap Index - This is the player's handicap index as determined by the WHS.  When the handicap index is used you must also provide the slope rating and course rating for the associated course tee.  This slope rating and course rating is entered on the course setup page and should be entered prior to tournament setup.  Handicaps for pros (better than scratch) should be entered as negative values. Important Note: When the Tournament Information page is saved, the course handicaps for each player will be calculated and saved for use in net scoring.  If the slope, course rating, or par for the course is changed, then you MUST edit and re-save the Tournament Information for each affected round.  If playing a 9 hole round then the associated course should also be 9 holes with a 9 hole course rating.  The entered handicap index should be 1/2 of the full 18 hole index.

Handicap Allowance - The handicap allowance is the percent of the course handicap that will be used for this rounds calculation of playing handicap.  It affects all net scores with the exception of match-play games which have their own allowance percentage for course handicaps.  Per the World Handicap System (WHS), the calculation of the playing handicap is:

Playing Handicap = rounding of (Unrounded course handicap times allowance percent)

If the handicap allowance is 100%, then the course handicap can be entered using either the rounded course handicap or the unrounded one.  The results are the same.

Stroke Leaderboard Option - Enables the stroke leaderboard during the event.  You can also enable the Front 9 and Back 9 leaderboards option which includes a front 9 leaderboard and a separate back 9 leaderboard.

Tie-Breaking Option on Last Round - Scrolf supports tie-breaking on the last 18 hole round of an event (or the only 18 hole round of an event) for the stroke-play and best-ball leaderboard. Tie-breaking logic is applied against all positions and the tie-breaking logic is dependent on the type chosen.  Note that tie-breaking is ONLY run against players who have completed scoring the last 18 holes (or for best-ball the current round if best-ball teams change by round) and the leaderboard results may change as other players finish their rounds.  If a tie cannot be broken, then the players will be listed as Tied for the position. The tie-break options follow:

None (Retain Ties) - The default.  No tie-breaking logic is run.

USGA Tie-Breaker - Uses USGA last 9, 6, 3, 1 holes to determine tie breaks.  Uses gross scores for gross leaderboard.  For net leaderboards a fraction of each player's Course Handicap (last 9 holes - 1/2, last 6 - 1/3, last 3 - 1/6, 18th - 1/18) is deducted from the total score for each group of holes. Note that for the best-ball leaderboard the handicap cannot be determined (as it can change from hole to hole) so instead the Countback option will be used for the best-ball leaderboard instead.

Most to Least Difficult - Looks at the gross score (for both gross and net leaderboards) hole by hole in the order of the most difficult to least difficult based on the course score card hole handicaps.

Countback - Similar to USGA last 9, 6, 3, 1 but uses the actual net score for each hole instead of a fractional calculation (for net leaderboard).

Last To First - Compares score hole by hole starting with hole 18 and moving back to 1.  For net events will use the net score for each hole.

Stableford Option - Enables the Stableford Leaderboard during the event. When selected will also display the point values for each of the displayed scores (relative to par).  The default values for a newly added Stableford are based on the classic Stableford point system.  You can optionally change the point values to create modified Stableford events.

Skins Option- Enables the Standard Skins Leaderboard during the event.  You can optionally mark players as non-participants in the skins leaderboard by adding specific suffixes to the players Sort Code.  See 'Enable Sort Column' under advanced options below for more info.

Net Skins Calculation Adjustment - Determines any adjustments to skins calculation for net scoring as follows:

None - Player Handicap is applied to gross score to determine the net for the hole.  There is no adjustment or restriction against this net result.

Limit Handicaps to 1 stroke - Limits the number of handicap strokes to one for each hole.  So if a player would normally receive a 2 stroke advantage on a specific hole, this adjustment will limit the player to 1 stroke for the purpose of determining their skins score (so if they shot a 6 with a 2 stroke handicap and net of 4, for skins purposes they would have a net of 5).

Gross Beats Net - If two players tie for low and one player's low is gross and the other is net, then the gross low will win the skins.

Limit Handicaps to 1 stroke AND Gross Beats Net - Combines the two options above.

Show Pushed Skins Names - Will add a column to the skins leaderboard which shows all players who have tied for the lowest score on each hole unless there is a single winner. This feature is only recommended for smaller events. Note that ties are affected by Net Skins Calculation Adjustment if it is turned on.

Use Relative To Par Results (instead of actual score) - When enabled the skin will be based on relative to par results as opposed to the actual score.  This is most useful for events where players are using varying tees with varying pars.  So for example if two players both score a 4 on a hole but one player is playing a par 4 tee and the other is playing a par 5 tee then the Par 5 tee player will win the hole as they scored a birdy vs a par.

Horse Race Option- Enables the Horse Race (also known as Shootout) leaderboard during the event.  The Horse Race calculations always begin on the first hole (hole 1) regardless of the starting hole(s) for players. As play continues the leaderboard will show where each player is eliminated (or surviving).  Dependent on the number of players in the event, the race can end after a few holes or potentially all 18. In a large event it is likely that there will be multiple winners. Note that as scores are entered, the real-time results may change dramatically. The Strikeout Count setting (see below) allows you to choose the number of high-scores (strikes) under which a player which will be eliminated. You can optionally mark players as non-participants in the Horse Race leaderboard by adding specific suffixes to the players Sort Code.  See 'Enable Sort Column' under advanced options below for more info.

Horse Race Calculation - Players strikeout (are eliminated) based on the selected calculation mode:

Strikeout (eliminate) players with high score (ties included) - All players with the same high score for each hole are issued a strike.  When a player's strike count equals the Horse Race Strikeout Count, the player is eliminated.

Strikeout (eliminate) players ONLY if they have the sole high score - The player who has the sole high score for a hole is issued a strike. When a player's strike count equals the Horse Race Strikeout Count, the player is eliminated.

Horse Race Strikeout Count - This setting establishes the number of strikes under which a player will be eliminated.  For example a strikeout count of 1 will eliminate a player the first time he has a high score (one strike).  A strikeout count of 2 will eliminate a player the second time he has a high score (two strikes).  A higher strikeout count will help the horse race game last longer for smaller groups of players.

Tournament PIN - This PIN is generated by the system but can be changed to some other 4 digit number. When checked, this will require that your team scorers enter the Tournament PIN (one time only) prior to accessing the scoring for their team.  It is a recommended setting.

Viewing PIN - This PIN is generated by the system but can be changed to some other 4 digit number. When checked, this will require that leaderboard viewers most enter this PIN in order to follow the leaderboard.

Scoring Access Control - Select the security level that you want for this tournament.  The security level determines the process that teams use to be validated for entering their scores during the tournament.  The security level also determines how involved you, the tournament manager, needs to be with scoring.  The available levels and their descriptions follow:

Standard - Recommended! Anyone who requests to be a scorer from the mobile site leader board will be given immediate access. This level of security assumes that all spectators and players are trustworthy.  It is typically used in conjunction with a tournament PIN for scorers.

High - Anyone who requests to be a scorer from the mobile site leader board will have to wait for your approval.  Using the tournament dashboard you can review and approve (or deny) scoring requests.  When you approve a request an email is automatically generated and sent out to the requester with scoring credentials.  This level requires both your approval and that the user entered email address be valid.

Ultra High - Requests to be a scorer can not be made from the mobile site leader board. Only the scorer email addresses that you enter for each team will have scoring access.

Locked - Only you (the tournament manager) can enter scores. The email addresses that you enter for each team will only be sent general tournament information and not scoring credentials.

Advanced Settings - Optional settings to enable advanced functions.  The available settings follow:

Allow Scorers to Edit Team/Player Names - Check this option if you want to allow scorers to change the name of their team/players during the tournament.

Allow Scorers to Edit Player Handicaps - Check this option if you want to allow scorers to edit the handicaps of their players during the tournament.  The edit is only against the handicap of the current round.  Once the handicap is saved, the leaderboard will be immediately updated.

Enable Player Chat - Check this option if you want to allow scorers to share trash talk (chat) messages.  The messages are available to send and view on the same page as the mobile leaderboard. Click here for more info on Chat.

Chat PIN - A security PIN required to join the chat group.  As players can join the chat as either scorers or leaderboard viewers, the chat PIN prevents non-players from reading or writing chat messages.

Chat Header - The chat header as displayed for the chat group.  The default 'Trash Talk' can be changed out for anything you want... but it should be something that clearly indicates its purpose.

Allow Scorers To Add Players - Check this option if you to give anyone with a Tournament PIN the ability to add players on the day of the event from the mobile site. Note that this feature is only available for Stroke-play and Points events and requires there be available credits in your account to cover any added players.  When selected a menu item will appear on the mobile player selection page.  Select the 'Add Player(s)' option and fill in the necessary information. Click here for more help.

Handicap Edit PIN - If you want added security for handicap edits, then enter a 4 digit Handicap PIN.  This PIN will be required each time the scorer attempts to change a player handicap.

Allow Scorers to Edit Message Line - Check this option if you want to allow scorers to edit the scrolling message line on the mobile leaderboard during the tournament.  As there is only a single message, any changes will override the previous message.  The edit is against all rounds for the event.

Message Edit PIN - If you want added security for message edits, then enter a 4 digit Message PIN.  This PIN will be required each time the scorer attempts to change the message line.

Enable Flights For Players - Check this option to add a flight column to the player grid.  Flights are used to divide players into different flights (or divisions). When flights are used, the leaderboard will display results within flight.

Enable Stableford Points Adjustment - Check this option to add a points adjustment column to the player grid. This option is only available for events using a score entry method of 'Strokes'. When checked, you can assign a positive or negative integer value to each player that is added to the gross/net Stableford poins total during the event.  The displayed Stableford leaderboard will reflect the points adjustment. Each round can have its own points adjustment (if desired). When enabled, points adjustment will only affect the gross and net stableford leaderboards. It will not affect the Stableford best-ball leaderboards.

Enable Gross Scores Adjustment - Check this option to add a stroke adjustment column to the player grid. This option is only available for events using a score entry method of 'Strokes'. When checked, you can assign a positive or negative integer value to each player that is added to the gross/net score total during the event.  The displayed stroke leaderboard will reflect the stroke adjustment. Each round can have its own stroke adjustment (if desired). When enabled, strokes adjustment will only affect the gross and net leaderboards.  It will not affect best-ball, stableford, or front-9/back-9 leaderboards.

Enable Tee Assignments By Player - Check this option to add a course/tee column to the player grid. This option is only available for events using a score entry method of 'Strokes'.  When checked, you can assign varying courses and tees to each player.  This feature is useful for events that play varying tees for a specific round.  If the hole par/handicaps are exactly the same between the tees, then the only benefit is if using Handicap Indexes then Scrolf will calculate the player's course handicap based on the specifics (course/slope rating and par) of the selected tee. If the tees have varying hole pars or hole handicaps, then the specific course/tee information will be used for calculations for each player. Note that for stroke, Stableford, and optionally skins leaderboards, results are based on relation to par for both gross and net results. It should also be noted that this feature allows play on varying courses as well on varying tees. When used, the selected player assigned course/tee must include all of the information included in the default course/tee for the event.  In other words, you can't mix a 9 hole course/tee with an 18-hole course/tee.  You must also make sure that if using player indexes, the course/tees all have slope/course ratings.

Enable Points Adjustment - Check this option to add a points adjustment column to the player grid. This option is only available for events using a score entry method of 'Points'.  When checked, you can assign starting point value to each player that is added to the hole points score during the event.  The points leaderboard will reflect the points adjustment.

Enable Assignment of Tee Times - Check this option if you want to add a tee time column to the player grid.  The tee time can be used as a sort key when selecting players to score on the day of the event.

Enable Sort Column for Player Scoring Selection - Check this option if you want to add a special sort column to the player grid.  Any alphanumerics can be entered in this column and used as a sort key when selecting players to score on the day of the event.  As an example, if playing groups are identified in an event by number, you could enter the number in this column.  Note that the sorted results are based on an alphabetic sort, so numbers will be sorted in alphabetical order.  If numbers are used it is recommended that they be zero filled to the largest number  of digits (i.e. 00,01,02...,09,10,11,).  The sort column is also used for special player specific options as follows:

Note that the codes MUST be preceded and followed by the pipe symbol (vertical bar) to be recognized as specialty codes.

·            Skins Non-participant - Mark a player as not participating in any Skins Leaderboard by adding the following suffix to the player's sort column: |NOSKIN|

·            Gross Skins Non-participant - Mark a player as not participating in any gross Skins Leaderboard by adding the following suffix to the player's sort column: |NOSKNG|

·            Net Skins Non-participant - Mark a player as not participating in any net Skins Leaderboard by adding the following suffix to the player's sort column: |NOSKNN|

·            Flights (All Players) Skin Non-Participant - Mark as player as not participating in the All Players Skins leaderboard for flighted events by adding suffix: |NOSKNA|

·            Flights Specific Skin Non-Participant - Mark a player as not participating in his flight's Skins leaderboard by adding suffix: |NOSKNF|

·            Horse Race Non-participant - Mark a player as not participating in any Horse Race Leaderboard by adding the following suffix to the player's sort column: |NOHRS|

·            Gross Horse Race Non-participant - Mark a player as not participating in any gross Horse Race Leaderboard by adding the following suffix to the player's sort column: |NOHRSG|

·            Net Horse Race Non-participant - Mark a player as not participating in any net Horse Race Leaderboard by adding the following suffix to the player's sort column: |NOHRSN|

·            Flights (All Players) Horse Race Non-Participant - Mark as player as not participating in the All Players Horse Race leaderboard for flighted events by adding suffix: |NOHRSA|

·            Flights Specific Horse Race Non-Participant - Mark a player as not participating in his flight's Horse Race leaderboard by adding suffix: |NOHRSF|

                    Example player's sort column:

Exclude player from all Gross skins and the Net all flights leaderboard: |NOSKNG|NOSKNA|

Exclude player from all Net skins: |NOSKNN|

Exclude player from all Net skins and his individual gross flight skins leaderboard: |NOSKNN|NOSKNF|

Player Scoring Selection Order - Can be used to specify the default sort column when selecting players to score on the day of the event.  The sort column can be changed by the end-user.

Enable Assignment of Scoring Emails for Players - Check this option to add an email(s) address column to the player grid.  The email address column is used to assign scoring responsibility to players.

Enable Entry of External Player IDs - Check this option to add an External Player ID column to the player grid.  The external player id is only used in scorecard exports to excel.

Exclude this round's scores from stroke-play leaderboard totals - Check this option to exlcude this round's stroke scores from round totals. It will affect all related stroke leaderboards including Stableford and Best-Ball.  It is typically used when the scores are used for a related match-play game but the strokes don't count towards player stroke play results. As an example for a match-play game of alternate strokes there is not a true stroke score for each player.

Include Best Ball Leaderboard - Check this option to enable a Best Ball Leaderboard during the event. If selected an additional column will appear in the grid where you will enter Best Ball Team Numbers for each player.  The Team Numbers group the players into specific Best Ball teams.  You also need to specify the Best Ball Count.  This is the number of best scores that are used for each team per hole. The 1-2-3 ball count option is for a game called 1-2-3 best ball.  For this format you must have a least 3 players per team.  On the first hole the best 1 score for each team is used.  For the 2nd hole the best two scores from each team are used.  For the 3rd hole the best three scores from each team are used.  After the 3rd hole  the 1-2-3 rotation continues for the rest of the round. Note that the starting hole doesn't affect which holes are used for 1-2-3. You can also select a best-ball count of Custom. Custom  is used if the best-ball count can change by hole.  When selected, a grid for the course will be displayed where you can specify the number of best-ball count (between 1 and 5) for each hole.  Note that the validation will require that each best-ball team has at minimum the number of players for the highest entered best-ball count.

Include Best Round Leaderboard - Check this option to enable a Best Round Leaderboard sometimes known as a best ball by round leaderboard during the event. This option uses the best round(s) with-in a team and is rarely used. Make sure you understand this option before selecting it! If selected an additional column will appear in the grid where you will enter Best Ball Team Numbers for each player.  The Team Numbers group the players into specific Best Round teams.  You also need to specify the Best Balls Count.  This is the number of low round scores that are used for each team.  Note that the best ball count 1-2-3 option and the custom option is not valid for this format.

Use Relative To Par Results - If the Best Ball Leaderboard option is enabled then the best-ball will be based on relative to par results as opposed to the actual score.  This is most useful for events where players are using varying tees with varying pars.  So for example if two teammates both score a 4 on a hole but one player is playing a par 4 tee and the other is playing a par 5 tee then the Par 5 tee player will have the 'best ball' for the hole as they scored a birdy vs a par.  The best-ball will be recorded as 1 under par.

Enable Flights for Best Ball Teams - If the Best Ball Leaderboard option is enabled, then this option will add a Best Ball Flight column to the player grid.

Best Ball Teams Change Between Rounds - By default, best ball teams stay the same across all rounds of a multiple-round event.  If instead you want to change best ball teams between rounds, then mark this option. When selected, best ball team scores will only be calculated for the current round and previous rounds will be ignored.

Best Ball Team Settings - If using Best Ball, then you can optionally set some additional parameters including team Names and team logos.  Note - This function is only available when editing an event (not when adding a new event) and is not available if best ball teams change between rounds.  For more info, click here.

Start Type - Based on your selection here, the system will automatically generate starting holes.  This will save you some data-entry time if you choose an option that closely matches your actual tournament. Note - This option is only available when adding a tournament.

Number of Expected Teams/Players - Based on your selection here, the system will automatically generate generic teams with associated starting holes.  This will save you some data-entry time if you choose a range that closely matches your actual tournament. Note - This option is only available when adding a tournament.

Import File - Provides the option to import the teams or players list.  For more information look here.

Registered Teams - This grid is used to create, edit, and delete player/team information.  If using Individual scoring, enter Player names.  If using Team scoring, enter Team names. Note that some of these columns are only visible if the corresponding advanced setting has been enabled.  The following columns are available for each row:

Flight - If you want to divide players into different flights (or divisions) then you can optionally assign a flight code of up to 3 characters.  When flights are used, the leaderboard will display results within flight.  If flights are not used then leave this field empty.  We recommend a 1 character flight code to help prevent errors in typing, however you have the freedom to enter up to 3 characters to designate a flight. Note that the Flight column can optionally be used to segregate players from the main leaderboard in case of DQs, Cuts, etc.  For more information on this usage look here

Player/Team Name - Name for the player or team.  You can use the generic name generated by the system or a custom name.  During the tournament each scorer can optionally change their team/player(s) name.

External Player ID - This optional column is used to enter a unique identifier for the player.  It is only used when player scorecards are exported (via the traditional clubhouse leaderboard export function).  Typically it would only be used by golf groups that need to download and track scoring over the course of many events.

Handicap - If enabled this column is used to enter the handicap for the team/player. Depending on your handicap selection this will either be the course handicap or the handicap index for the player.  Starting in 2020 Scrolf now uses the World Handicap System (WHS).  If course handicap is being used, then it can be entered with decimal positions.  The course handicap is then multiplied by the allowance percent (and then rounded) to get the playing handicap. For plus-handicappers (players with course handicaps better than zero), enter their course handicap as a negative number.  For example a plus-handicapper with a +5 handicap should be entered into Scrolf as -5.

Best Ball Team Number - If Best Ball is enabled this column is used to enter a team number.  The team number groups individual players together into a best ball team.  For example a particular four man team could each have a Team Number of 1, while the next four man team could have a team number of 2.

Best Ball Flight - When Best Ball Flights are enabled this column is used to enter best ball flights. Best Ball Flights are used to divide Best Ball Teams into different flights (or divisions) by assigning a flight code of up to 3 characters.  When Best Ball flights are used, the leaderboard will display Best Ball results within flight.  If flights are not used then leave this field empty.  We recommend a 1 character flight code to help prevent errors in typing, however you have the freedom to enter up to 3 characters to designate a flight. All players on a best ball team must be assigned the same best ball flight. Note that the Best Ball Flight column can optionally be used to segregate teams from the main Best Ball leaderboard in case of DQs, Cuts, etc.  For more information on this usage look here

Starting Hole - The starting hole for each team.

Optional - Scorer(s) Email Address List - This is an optional entry for higher level scoring access levels.  If entered, the email address(es) associated with each team are approved for team scoring.  The emails can also optionally be used as a distribution list for emailing team credentials (using the tournament dashboard). For multiple team scorers enter multiple emails separated by a comma. i.e. d@d.com,d1@x.com,d2@y.com Note that the Ultra High security setting requires that you provide team scorer email addresses here.
