Add or Edit a Match-Play Tournament

Scrolf has two options for setting up Match Play events:

Option 1: Set a Score Entry Method of 'Match Play'.  This option is used solely for Match-play events like Ryder-Cups.  The result of each hole is entered as either a win, loss, or push.  Strokes are not collected and any handicapping must be determined by the players when entering the win, loss, push result.  Setup is typically a bit easier for this option. This page documents the Option 1 setup.

Option 2: Setup a Stroke-play event and add match-play games.  When using this option, scorers will enter gross strokes and the all related match-play games will be automatically updated to reflect the matches current status.  Any number of games and match-ups can be created.  This option provides great flexibility and also provides stroke-play leaderboards.  It is somewhat more difficult to setup, however, than option 1.  For more information on Option 2, click here.

This page is used to add or edit tournament information for a Match-Play event.  For stroke scored events with optional Match Play look here.  For point scored events look here.

Tournament Name - The name you want to use for this tournament.

Tournament/Round Date - The date of the tournament or round.  For a multi-round event, you should edit the date for each round to match the date of play.

Golf Course - Select one of your golf courses from the drop-down list.  If the course you want isn't listed, you'll need to add it under <My Courses>.

Golf Course Tee - Select one of the listed tees from the drop-down list.

Score Entry Method - Select the scoring method from the drop-down list.

Number of Sides - Select the number of sides (currently 0 or 2).  Use zero for no sides so that matches are unrelated to any particular side.  Used for non-ryder cup match-play events.

Team 1 Name - The team name you want to use for the first team.

Team 2 Name - The team name you want to use for the opposing team.

Holes in this Match - Enter the number of holes for this round of the match.  The number of holes cannot exceed the number of holes on the course

Win Points - Enter the number of points that are awarded for a team win for this round.  Note that ties will result in half of this value. If the event is an 18 hole round, then you can OPTIONALLY award win points for the front 9 and back 9 independently of the full 18 hole win.  The Front 9 and Back 9 win points will default to zero and not affect the results.  When they are set to non-zero values, then their win values will automatically be calculated and added to the team totals.  In addition, you can cycle through the Full 18 hole, Front 9, or Back 9 leaderboards on the mobile site.  Each leaderboard will always show the current team point standings at the top.

Naming Option - Check this option if you want to allow scorers to change the name of their team/players during the tournament.

Tournament PIN - This PIN is generated by the system but can be changed to some other 4 digit number. When checked, this will require that your team scorers enter the Tournament PIN (one time only) prior to accessing the scoring for their team.  It is a recommended setting.

Viewing PIN - This PIN is generated by the system but can be changed to some other 4 digit number. When checked, this will require that leaderboard viewers most enter this PIN in order to follow the leaderboard.

Team Scoring Security Level - Select the security level that you want for this tournament.  The security level determines the process that teams use to be validated for entering their scores during the tournament.  The security level also determines how involved you, the tournament manager, needs to be with scoring.  The available levels and their descriptions follow:

Standard - Anyone who requests to be a scorer from the mobile site leaderboard will be given immediate access and will also be sent an email with scoring credentials. This level of security assumes that all players and spectators are trustworthy.

High - Anyone who requests to be a scorer from the mobile site leaderboard will have to wait for your approval.  Using the tournament dashboard you can review and approve (or deny) scoring requests.  When you approve a request an email is automatically generated and sent out to the requestor with scoring credentials.  This level requires both your approval and that the user entered email address be valid.

Ultra High - Requests to be a scorer can not be made from the mobile site leaderboard. Only the scorer email addresses that you enter for each team will have scoring access.

Locked - Only you (the tournament manager) can enter scores. The email addresses that you enter for each team will only be sent general tournament information and not scoring credentials.

Start Type - Based on your selection here, the system will automatically generate starting holes.  This will save you some data-entry time if you choose an option that closely matches your actual tournament. Note - This option is only available when adding a tournament.

Number of Expected Teams - Based on your selection here, the system will automatically generate generic teams with associated starting holes.  This will save you some data-entry time if you choose a range that closely matches your actual tournament. Note - This option is only available when adding a tournament.

Advanced Settings - Optional settings to enable advanced functions.  The available settings follow:

Enable Editing of Team/Player Names - Check this option if you want to allow scorers to change the name of their team/players during the tournament.

Enable Player Chat - Check this option if you want to allow scorers to share trash talk (chat) messages.  The messages are available to send and view on the same page as the mobile leaderboard. Click here for more info on Chat.

Chat PIN - A security PIN required to join the chat group.  As players can join the chat as either scorers or leaderboard viewers, the chat PIN prevents non-players from reading or writing chat messages.

Chat Header - The chat header as displayed for the chat group.  The default 'Trash Talk' can be changed out for anything you want... but it should be something that clearly indicates its purpose.

Enable Assignment of Tee Times - Check this option if you want to add a tee time column to the player grid.  The tee time can be used as a sort key when selecting players to score on the day of the event.  When tee times are set, they are also used as the sort criteria for matches on the spectator leaderboard.  For a scorers view, their matches will come first in the leaderboard regardless of the scoring match tee-time (followed by the rest of the matches in tee-time order).

Enable Sort Column for Player Scoring Selection - Check this option if you want to add a special sort column to the player grid.  Any alphanumerics can be entered in this column and used as a sort key when selecting players to score on the day of the event.  As an example, if playing groups are identified in an event by number, you could enter the number in this column.  Note that the sorted results are based on an alphabetic sort, so numbers will be sorted in alphabetical order.  If numbers are used it is recommended that they be zero filled to the largest number  of digits (i.e. 00,01,02...,09,10,11,)

Player Scoring Selection Order - Can be used to specify the default sort column when selecting players to score on the day of the event.  The sort column can be changed by the end-user.

Enable Assignment of Scoring Emails for Players - Check this option to add an email(s) address column to the player grid.  The email address column is used to assign scoring responsibility to players.

Registered Teams - This grid is used to create, edit, and delete team/player match up information.  The following information can be entered for each match up:

Team 1 Players - Player name(s) for Team 1.  You can use the generic name generated by the system or a custom name.  During the tournament each scorer can optionally change their player name(s).

Team 2 Players - Player name(s) for Team 2.  You can use the generic name generated by the system or a custom name.  During the tournament each scorer can optionally change their player name(s).

Starting Hole - The starting hole for each match up.

Optional - Scorer(s) Email Address List - This is an optional entry for all self-service security levels.  If entered, the email address(es) associated with each team are approved for team scoring.  The emails can also optionally be used as a distribution list for emailing team credentials (using the tournament dashboard). For multiple team scorers enter multiple emails separated by a comma. i.e. d@d.com,d1@x.com,d2@y.com Note that the Ultra High security setting requires that you provide team scorer email addresses here.
